A recent article written by a nurse suggested that women can decrease their by taking an anti-seizure drug known as Neurontin.

Has the pharmaceutical industry lost so much revenue form HRT (hormone replacement therapy) that they have to find a different drug for us to take for hot flashes.

The author states that Neurontin has been used for years as a treatment for hot flashes and seem to be safe and well tolerated. Cover your ears now, because I just want to scream.

Let me tell you of my experience with this wonder drug. No, I never agreed to take it for hot flashes, but faced with daily headaches for three years my neurologist, unable to find the reason for my headaches suggested I try Neurontin. Desperate for relief I decided to give it a try. The following are the results I experienced.

Day one - I took the drug and was fine during the day, but after I went to sleep that night, only to awake after having the most vivid and scary dream of someone breaking into my house as I slept. The next day I thought I’d call my doctor to see if perhaps it was due to my taking the drug Neurontin, but no one from his office returned my call.

Day two - I took it again and that evening I woke up from a very lucid nightmare, I was dreaming my house was on fire and my children were trapped. When I woke up I was crying I had to get my husband, who was already awake, to hold me as I sobbed like a baby.

Day three - Since my neurologist’s office didn’t return my call yet, I called them again, wondering if my night terrors were due to this drug. Needless to say no one from his office returned my call, so reluctantly I took the drug again for the third time. That evening it was the most terrible dream you can imagine, I was being pinned down and assaulted with a knife and was unable to breath. When I woke up I was gasping for air and I was so shaken I couldn’t sleep for the rest of the night.

Needless to say I threw those pills away, and after doing some research on the side effects found out that nightmares were a side effect. It’s like my subconscious took some of my greatest fears and fed them back to me in my dreams.

I believe my nightmares were some of my subconscious greatest fears. I never took LSD in my life but I do feel like I experienced a very bad trip with Neurontin.

So what do you say that we save the anti-seizure medication for people with seizures there are so many natural alternative therapies for hot flashes.

So if anyone suggests you take Neurontin for your menopause hot flashes, tell them you’ll pass. Hot flashes are a walk in the park compared to the night terrors I experienced with Neurotin.
